I grew up in Oregon and since moving to the South I've encounterd some very strong opinionated people about race. There are times when something is said and I sit absolutely flabbergasted that some actually said that and that they mean what they say.
You see, when I was 18 months old my mom married my step father who happened to be colored. Didn't effect me in any way, but I learned at a very early age that some people had a problem with a mixed marriage. Not me. I love my dad. He wasn't any different from any other dad out there for me. He played with us, read to us, loved us.
But you see, down here I hear a lot of " It's wrong for a white girl to be dating a colored boy", or when I was working in the youth group I heard an adult say to one of our students, " What would your parents say if they knew you were talking to that colored boy" and it was said with the boy standing right there.
Well, today I was reading the bible and I was in Ruth. Ruth and Naomi are from two different areas. But she had heard about God from Ruth and wanted to learn more about God from her so she followed her mother-in-law back to Isreal. In Isreal, Ruth was a member of a despised people. But Boaz, a picture of Christ, had heard how the Moabites showed kindness to Naomi, so he offered to protect Ruth as a daughter. Later, he came to love her as a wife. Like God, Boaz was unprejudice and gladly welcomed Ruth into his family.
God is unprejudiced, he welcomes anyone of any race into his family. ( Romans 2:11, For God does not show favortism) He doesn't care where you're from, the color of our skin, or what name you bear. And that same color-blind impartiality is what he expects us to show.
I just love it when I can read God's word and he opens the door for my eyes to see His truth and His Love.
